About St. Vincent de Paul

Vincent de Paul, sometimes known as Saint Vincent de Paul, was a Catholic priest from France who dedicated his life to helping the poor. Vincent was appointed as a chaplain to the galleys in 1622.

He returned to be the superior of what is now known as the Congregation of the Mission, or the “Vincentians,” after serving for a period in Paris among imprisoned galley-slaves (in France known as “Lazaristes”).

These priests were to devote themselves fully to the inhabitants of tiny towns and villages, taking vows of poverty, chastity, obedience, and stability. Vincent was passionate about leading clergy retreats at a time when there was a lot of laxities, abuse, and ignorance among them.

He was the founder of the Congregation of the Mission and Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, as well as a pioneer in clerical education and a key figure in the establishment of seminaries.

He was ordained in 1600 and graduated from the University of Toulouse in 1604. He was educated by the Franciscans in Dax, France. He was reputedly kidnapped and sold as a slave at sea by Barbary pirates, but he managed to flee. He returned to Rome for a year to pursue his studies before settling in Paris. He gave the parish of Clichy to the revered Cardinal Pierre de Bérulle.

On April 23, 1833, Frederic was 20 years old when he founded the Society in Paris with a group of friends. A year later, he made that pivotal statement. It encapsulates Society’s spiritual character as well as its commitment to social justice.

The patron saint of the new Society was chosen as St. Vincent de Paul. The Society has always advocated for a realistic, direct approach to poverty alleviation.

Until 1963, the ‘Woman’s Society of St. Vincent de Paul,’ with headquarters in Bologna, Italy, was a separate organization that served women all over the world. It was established in 1856 to provide philanthropic assistance to those who needed it most, such as widows, orphan girls, and mothers with small families.

In 1967, the women’s Society was merged with the men’s Society after a trial period. On a global scale, Society currently accepts both men and women as equal members with equal responsibilities.

God has given me the gift to read the signs, interpret the dreams, decode the angel numbers since birth. Through rigorous practice and application, my gifts have been fine-tuned. Now, I use my gifts solely to help those distressed souls who have lost all hopes, those who have been left alone to fend for themselves, those whom the system doesn’t care anymore, those whom the mainstream science has ignored.
