St. Florian is the patron saint of firefighters. Firefighters seek his intercession by praying to St. Florian Novena for nine consecutive days. This novena is also prayed against fires, floods, and other natural calamities.
St. Florian, along with chimney sweeps, soap makers, and Austria, is the patron saint of firefighters. From A.D. 250 through 304, Florian, or Florianus, was a Christian soldier in the Roman army.
St Florian’s Day, also known as International Firefighters Day, is on May 4th. The patron saint of firemen is St. Florian. In the Roman province of Noricum, Florian was a high-ranking Roman Army officer. His bosses described him as a great communicator, a problem solver, and a determined hard worker.
The Equestrian Class included Roman firefighters (Knight). They had received extensive training and were well compensated. Their green tunics set them apart from other Roman soldiers. Florian died for his Christian faith, earning him the title of Martyr and elevating him to the patron saint of all things related to fire safety.
About St. Florian
Florian enlisted in the Roman army as a young man, demonstrating that he had the potential to rise fast through the ranks. Florian was appointed to a top administrative job in Noricum, now part of Austria, by the emperor at the time, Diocletian, who recognized his dedication and ability to work effectively with people.
Diocletian, on the other hand, had no intention of utilizing Florian for good works. He rose to become the leader of an entire legion in Noricum, which is now on the Austrian-Slovenian border.
The ancient Romans did not have a firefighting force at the time, which seems strange given their administrative prowess. Local fires were put out by residents in the fire’s vicinity, while larger conflagrations were put out by the imperial army.
Because of a mythical episode in which he magically put out a fire with a single pitcher of water, Florian is connected with brewers. He is frequently shown with a pitcher in his hand. St. Florian is the patron saint of Chimney sweeps, Austria, Poland, and soap boilers.

Day 1
Let us begin, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Dear God, through the intercession of our patron, Saint Florian, have mercy on the souls of our comrades who have made the supreme sacrifice in the performance of their duty, and on all who have gone before us after years of faithful discharge of their responsibilities which now rest on ourselves. Give us Grace to prepare each day for our own summons to Thy tribunal of justice.
Into Thy hands, O Lord, I commend my Spirit, wherever Thou callest me, I am ready to go. Merciful Father of all men, save me from all bodily harm, if it be thy will, but above all, help me to be loyal and true, respectful and honorable, obedient and valiant. Thus fortified by virtue, I shall have no fear, for I shall then belong to Thee and shall never be separated from Thee.

Prayer of Protection for Firefighters
Heavenly Father, I pray for the firefighters and paramedics of our nation. Thank You for their courage, dedication, and commitment in serving all of the United States. I thank You for their bravery and willingness to sacrifice their own well-being and many times risk their own lives in the service of others.
I pray for their protection. Keep them safe from harm and injury. Give them Your wisdom and guidance when faced with crucial decisions. Encourage and strengthen them mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Help them to overcome the stress and hardships that accompany their occupation.
May Your blessings be upon their homes and families. Give their families peace, comfort, courage and strength to cope with the sacrifices that are required.
I pray people everywhere would take time to pray for and personally give a word of encouragement and support to the rescue workers of their community.
God, bless the rescue workers. Amen.
