St. Luke the Evangelist is a patron saint of doctors, artists, physicians, bachelors, surgeons, students, and butchers, according to the Catholic Church and other major denominations.
Saint Luke was born in Antioch, Syria, as both a Greek and a Gentile. He was a physician, and it’s possible he was also a slave, as it was normal practice in his day for slaves to be taught in medicine so that the family might have a resident physician.
In the year 51, Luke met Paul at Troas and accompanied him from Macedonia to Philippi.
St. Luke novena can be prayed to seek intercession for greater piety and devotion to Our Lord.
Luke wrote the third Gospel and Acts of the Apostles, a two-volume book that is one of the most important parts of the New Testament. In the two books, he draws a comparison between Christ’s life and the Church’s.
Among the Gospel writers, he is the only Gentile Christian. He is said to be an Antiochene by tradition, and Paul refers to him as “our dear physician.” Between 70 and 85 A.D., he most likely wrote his Gospel.
About St. Luke
St. Luke is thought to be the author of both the Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles, which bear his name. According to Eusebius, he was born into a wealthy Greek family in Antioch, Syria, and trained as a physician.
His message is believed to be the most poetic and lovely of all. He used the New Testament’s greatest grammar and most eloquent and precise Greek.
He portrayed Jesus as the world’s Savior and Lord, rather than the Jewish Messiah. He was a prayerful person, as this gospel is all about the power of prayer.
Women’s dignity was essential to him, and they were featured prominently in his literature. He accompanied St. Paul on his second missionary voyage and was most likely responsible for Paul’s health. Luke was with Paul during his final days in Rome, while he was imprisoned.

Significance of St. Luke Novena
While Luke was most likely educated as a physician, he is now regarded as one of the church’s first historians. His precise, meticulous writings provide the only complete account of what occurred after Jesus ascended to heaven.
It would be difficult to conceive how Christianity grew from a small, fragile movement within Judaism to become the world’s largest religion without his description in Acts. On October 18, we commemorate St. Luke’s feast day.
