The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the taking up of Mother Mary, the mother of Jesus into Heaven as per the beliefs of the Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Churches, Oriental Orthodoxy, Church of the East, and some Lutheran and Anglo-Catholic Churches.
The Assumption teaches that Mary, the mother of Christ was taken body and soul into heaven. In the Eastern Churches, the feast is called the Dormition of the Theotokos.
The feast also marks as the Holy Day of Obligation in the Catholic Church. The Assumption of the Virgin Mary is celebrated since the 12th century. The Catholic Church teaches the assumption as the Virgin Mary completing her earthly life and was assumed body and soul into heaven.
Munificentissimus Deus emphasized the Assumption as “Mary’s unity with her divine son” and her Assumption also means the final body resurrection which was promised to all Christians and that the Church has reached its ultimate salvation
The dogma of the Assumption was found in 1854 defining Mary’s Immaculate Conception meaning Mother without sin, preserved from corruption, resurrected, and received into heaven.
The assumption largely contributes to the meaning of her immaculate conception, her perpetual virginity, and becoming the mother of God.
The New Testament offers a fundamental message about the strong emphasization of the Blessed Virgin’s perfect union with Jesus’ destiny.
The assumption was manifested from the time of the Savior’s birth along with the Mother’s participation in Jesus’ mission and her association with God’s sacrifice.
After helping in the mission the Blessed Mother will share her heavenly destiny in body and soul is the key message to resonate from the scriptures.
She is described as the Queen who will enter the royal halls of heaven triumphantly, sitting at the right hand of the Creator as per Munificentissimus Deus. The Old Testament mentions the Assumption as a woman clothed with the sun whom John the Apostle contemplated on the Island of Patmos.
The New Testament renounces the Assumption during the Annunciation to Mother Mary by Archangel and is known to be the most perfect grace granted to the Blessed Virgin and the special blessing that countered the curse of Eve.
