Significance of Padre Pio Novena
Padre Pio is also known as St. Pio of Pietrelcina. He is a very popular saint for Catholics. He was born on 25 May 1887 at Pietrelcina and baptized the next day and was named Francesco.
He was a devout catholic since his childhood. He served as an altar boy in a local parish. Later at the age of 15, he entered the novitiate of the Capuchin Friars, where he was named Pio or Pius.
Though he always had some health problems, he persisted because of his devotion and strong will and was ordained a priest in 1910.
On September 20, 1918, Padre Pio manifested stigmata (wounds that match the crucifixion wounds of Our Lord). The wounds appeared on his palms, feet, sides, and shoulders.
According to the eyewitnesses, blood from the stigmata smelled like perfume or roses – a phenomenon recognized by the Church as the odor of sanctity.
Padre Pio has tens of thousands of miracles associated with him, including the healing of Pope John Paul II.
He was canonized in 2002. St. Padre Pio is venerated as the patron saint of civil defense volunteers, adolescents, and stress relief.
