About St. Elizabeth Ann Seton

Elizabeth Ann Bayley was born on August 28, 1774, in New York City, to a wealthy Episcopal family. She lost her mother when she was three years old. Elizabeth married William Magee Seton, a wealthy businessman when she was 19 years old, and they had five children.

In 1803, William succumbed to illness, leaving Elizabeth a young widow. Elizabeth returned to the United States after discovering Catholicism in Italy, where her husband had died, and joined the Catholic Church in New York in 1805.

Elizabeth grew up in the elite echelon of New York society, having been born two years before the American Revolution. She was an avid reader who devoured everything from the Bible to modern fiction.

Despite her high-society upbringing, Elizabeth’s childhood was quiet, modest, and lonely. The Bible would become her constant source of instruction, support, and comfort as she grew older, and she would adore the Scriptures for the rest of her life.

Elizabeth married William Magee Seton on January 25, 1794, when she was nineteen years old. Anna Maria, William, Richard, Catherine, and Rebecca were their five children.

Seton had a complete life of loving devotion to her family, caring for the most fortunate, and religious growth as an Episcopal woman.

Her Episcopal family rejected her conversion, acquaintances abandoned her, and she found herself in grave financial problems as a result. In New York City, she opened a school and eventually a boarding home.

When a priest in Baltimore heard about her difficulties, he urged her to create a ladies’ school there. She then collected a group of like-minded ladies around her and created a convent of nuns. She took her first religious vows on March 25, 1809.

The Sisters of St. Joseph became the community’s name after they adopted a religious habit, and Elizabeth became known as Mother Seton. They later adopted the Daughters of Charity’s rule.

The first American to be canonized as a saint was Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton. She was reared as an Episcopalian but converted to Catholicism later in life. She remained devout despite her life’s difficulties and tragedies. Seton’s legacy continued on even though she died at an early age.

Day 1

Let us begin, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

O father, the first rule of our dear Savior’s life was to do Your Will. Let His Will of the present moment be the first rule of our daily life and work with no other desire but for its most full and complete accomplishment. Help us to follow it faithfully, so that doing what You wish we will be pleasing to You.

Lord Jesus Christ, truly present in our chapel, make our hearts and souls to know and understand the grace of the Holy Sacrament of the Altar as St. Elizabeth Ann Seton did. Grant us her fervor in adoration, her ardor in communion, and her unceasing desire for eternal union with You.

Remember, O most compassionate Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, we fly unto you, O Virgin of Virgins, our Mother, to you we come, before you we kneel, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not our petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer them.

<<mention your special request>>

Lord God, you blessed Elizabeth Ann Seton with gifts of grace as wife and mother, educator and foundress, so that she might spend her life in service to your people. Through her example and prayers may we learn to express our love for you in love for our fellow men and women. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Lord Jesus, Who was born for us in a stable, lived for us a life of pain and sorrow, and died for us upon a cross; say for us in the hour of death, Father, forgive, and to Your Mother, Behold your child. Say to us, This day you shall be with Me in paradise. Dear Savior, leave us not, forsake us not. We thirst for You, Fountain of Living Water. Our days pass quickly along, soon all will be consummated for us. To Your hands we commend our spirits, now and forever.

Amen.

God has given me the gift to read the signs, interpret the dreams, decode the angel numbers since birth. Through rigorous practice and application, my gifts have been fine-tuned. Now, I use my gifts solely to help those distressed souls who have lost all hopes, those who have been left alone to fend for themselves, those whom the system doesn’t care anymore, those whom the mainstream science has ignored.
