Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Before we delve into prayer to the Holy Spirit, let’s understand the concept of the Holy Spirit. In Judaism, the Holy Spirit is the divine force and influence of God over the Universe and His creatures. And in Islam, the Holy Spirit acts as an agent of divine action or communication.

The Holy Spirit is associated with a winged dove and tongues of fire in Christian iconography. It is considered the third person in the Christian belief. Altogether, it is believed that Holy Spirit is the One who empowers the followers of Jesus with spiritual gifts and power.

After Jesus was resurrected on the day of Easter, he spend several days teaching his disciples. And as he was about to leave earth one final time, he told his disciples that His father would send them an advocate who would teach them all the things and continue to remind them of everything that Jesus taught.

Finally, on the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended on earth. Devout Christians believe that Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to us in order to help our daily spiritual growth. It is important that we engage with him and pay attention to what he has to say.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit is a great way to reconnect with the Holy Spirit and ask him for protection, guidance, and support.

1) A Prayer to Welcome the Holy Spirit into Our Day

Holy Spirit, we welcome You. Holy Spirit, we know that You are the Counselor of Truth, our help in need, and the One who fills us with the Spirit of God. Holy Spirit, we pray this very day to come into greater communion with You. You so graciously work to intercede for us to the Father, but also to comfort us with Your peace that goes beyond all understanding. Holy Spirit, please come.

Holy Spirit, today we ask for godly counsel and direction. As it says in Psalm 37:4 to delight yourselves in the Lord, so we boldly seek to do so today. Following the will and heart of the Father is our greatest desire, for we know His plans are best for us and, in the end, glorify the kingdom. Holy Spirit, please lead us by Your wisdom, discernment, and kindness throughout our lives.

Holy Spirit we praise and thank You for the love lavished upon us. Holy Spirit, we seek and so earnestly crave to be in Your presence, to feel the inner work of You in our own hearts and minds. You so graciously give comfort, truth, and love. Holy Spirit, we welcome You this very day. In the Name of Christ Jesus, Amen.

O Lord,
Without you, I am wicked sinner, who thinks no good thought and does no good deed. I thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to seal me as the guarantee of my inheritance until I acquire possession of it, to the praise of the glory of God. Holy Spirit, please increase godly character in me. Make me more like my Lord and Savior through conviction and sanctification.

Find in me and remove sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, enmity, jealousy, wrath, envy, and any other sin that consumes my heart. Help me to see you more clearly – to recognize your movement in my life. Make me more sensitive to you so I can follow you more closely. Still, I know that I am selfish and rebellious. I need you to help me be obedient when I recognize your leading. I need you.

I ask you for your help and comfort today. You know my pain and anxieties very well. Thank you for praying over me. Help me to rest in your comfort today.

Help me to walk in you, the Spirit of God. Grow good fruit in my life. You are the one who produces these in me: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. I cannot live out these things on my own; I need you. Amen

O Lord,
I thank you that You are full of wisdom, and that You want to share that wisdom with us. Holy Spirit, I am in a complicated situation right now. I need understanding and discernment to navigate it in a manner that does not hurt those around me, maintains my testimony, and glorifies God.

Fill me with the divine discernment that only comes from the Lord, so that I can navigate these rough waters. Guide me and help me to understand those who are not in agreement with me, so that I can see them the way the Lord sees them. Help me to know what is right, and to stand in the right.

Help me crave your presence more than I crave sin. Help me grow in the fruit of the Spirit and so walk closer with Yourself. Heavenly Father, I thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Not only does He convict me of my sin when I daily fall short, He is my ever-present Help in time of need who also guides me into all truth. I admit that I need help understanding your Holy written Word.

Holy Spirit, will you give me a hunger to daily read the Bible? May You supernaturally illuminate what I am reading and give me the ability to comprehend what I am studying, not just for head knowledge, but to help me know You in a deeper way so that I give You the worship You deserve.
