Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Novena

The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary also called the Nativity of Mary, the Marymas or the Birth of the Virgin Mary is a Christian feast day celebrated in memory of the birth of Mary, mother of Jesus.

The feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated by the Church since the sixth century. Syria or Palestine was one of the first cities to celebrate the feast. The feast was later adopted by the Church at the end of the 7th century.

The apocryphal Protoevangelium of James talks about the birth of Mother Mary where Anna and Joachim were infertile and prayed to the Lord for a child. God responds by promising a child who will advance God’s plan of salvation for the world and thus Mother Mary is born.

The child was raised as an instrument of God, teaching her to love and serve God. The annunciation plays a huge role in the life of Mary which leads her to become one of the most important characters of the Church and in the salvation of Christ. The birth of Mother Mary is also celebrated in the honor of Jesus Christ, her son.
