About St. Patrick, Apostle of Ireland
St. Patrick was a Christian missionary who devoted his life to God. He is the primary patron saint and national apostle of Ireland and is praised for bringing Christianity to Ireland and for the Christianization of the Picts and Anglo-Saxons.
He is known as the patron saint of Ireland, Engineers, Nigeria, Montserrat, Archdiocese of New York, Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark, Boston, Rolla, Missouri, Loíza, Puerto Rico, Spain, Clann Giolla Phádraig, paralegals, Archdiocese of Melbourne, and people invoked against snakes, sins.
St. Patrick was born in Roman Britain but history doesn’t represent the exact birthplace but is told that he hailed from Glannoventa in Cumbria . Though he was from a religious family he was not an immediate believer of Christ.
The life of St. Thomas is depicted in his book called ‘the Confession of Saint Patrick‘, where he explains that he was captured and kidnapped by Irish pirates at the age of sixteen.
This incident strengthened his relationship with God. He had a spiritual development when connecting with God and explains how the Lord had mercy on his youth and ignorance, and forgave his sins upon repentance.
St. Thomas started to believe in Christ and converted to Christianity. He had escaped from his captivity after six years with God’s command and reached home where he continued to study Christianity and built monasteries, schools, and churches and died on March 17, 460 A.D.
St. Thomas’s works include the Confession, a spiritual autobiography depicting his early and present life, and his Letter to Coroticus, a denunciation of British mistreatment of Irish Christians.

Significance of St. Patrick Novena
St. Patrick’s feast day is celebrated on March 17, the feast is celebrated with religious services and feasts. The feast is celebrated traditionally in Ireland, where he converted the pagan Irish to Christianity and evangelized the northern half of Ireland, and converted thousands.
He was buried at Downpatrick. He is considered Ireland’s foremost saint. St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated as per the Irish traditional music sessions and by wearing green attire or shamrocks.
The parades include marching bands, the military, fire brigades, cultural organizations, charitable, organizations, voluntary associations, youth groups, and fraternities.
Christians attend church services, and the Lent restrictions on eating and drinking alcohol are lifted for the feast day. Drinking alcohol – especially Irish whiskey, beer, or cider plays an integral part in the celebrations.
The Saint Patrick’s Day custom of “drowning the shamrock” or “wetting the shamrock” is very popular based on tradition.
